With over thirty-five years of experience in designing and implementing health programs, Fatimata Sy is among the leading contemporary specialists and strategists in public health. Throughout her many years of service, she has made significant contributions to public health, the emergence of female leadership, and the promotion of family planning in several African countries. Holding a master's degree from Tulane University School of Public Health in New Orleans, Ms. Sy has been at the forefront of designing, managing, and evaluating health programs that have had a significant impact on many people in West Africa. Her strength lies in her ability to build partnerships and bridge the gap between policy and practice, ensuring that health initiatives are both culturally sensitive and effective.

Fatimata is an activist for women's access to contraception. Her seven years as the Head of the Ouagadougou Partnership Coordination Unit (UCPO) contributed to repositioning family planning as a priority in Francophone West African countries. She is also a champion for girls' education and female leadership.

In addition to her role as Director of UCPO/IntraHealth, she has held several important positions, including Senior Advisor for Regional Partnerships and Liaison Officer with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM) at the USAID/WA Regional Health Office in Ghana; Director of the FHI/Ghana Regional Office; Director of FHI/Senegal; Health Program Officer at the World Bank Office in Senegal; and Health & Nutrition Program Officer at USAID/Senegal.

Since her retirement in 2018, she continues to share her experience and expertise by serving on several advisory groups and boards. She is a board member of Tostan International, ACDEV, Baobab Institute, and Prokids Côte d’Ivoire; Senior Advisor to OWLA for accelerating female leadership; and a member of the investment committee for Children Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) programs.
